Sea Side Park
Odaiba’s Sea Park is a great place to get away from the city life. A small heaven away from the cities congestion, that has plenty of space, fresh air, and wait for it… a BEACH!
Yes, that’s right, Tokyo actually has a beach that is open all year round.
But don’t get mislead by the name. While it may be called sea park, you are most definitely not allowed in the sea. There are several signs pitched around the beach warning the sea is strictly off limits. : (
For good reasons too, the sea is filled to the rim with toxin, contamination and other bad things that will eat/burn/destroy the human skin. So you can completely cross swimming off your list, and I wouldn’t even think about dipping your feet in. But you can still play chicken with the water…
So what can you do at Odaiba Sea Park?
Relax! There is a long wide expansive beach you can sit back and relax at.
Juno’s Favorite
Juno really loved running around in the biggest sandbox (AKA a beach) she has ever seen. After getting tired, we played in the sand building castles and destroying them.
Sea Side Park’s Beach
Surprisingly…
Even though swimming in the water is strictly forbidden, for some reason you can go Kayaking. There is a Kayak rental service – not something the kids will be able to do… but something I have personally been dying to do.
Ride the Sea Bus. The sea bus will take you all the way up the Sumida-Gawa to Akasaka. Or you can take it across the bay to Minato-ku.
Walk the rainbow bridge. Just a short distance from this park is the entrance to the rainbow bridge. While most of the bridge is really smoggy cause it is covered, the Odaiba side of the bridge is completely open to the fresh air.
Don’t forget…
This beach is conveniently located to Tokyo’s biggest malls, with many family-friendly events, restaurants and rest areas. This makes it great to plan a meal around your short trip to the beach. We often bike down there in the morning, have some brunch and then hit the beach when it warms up a bit.
