And drinking coffee

Alright

Hey stephen

Happy Tuesday

Right, last year I went out on my birthday to a fancy restaurant at an hotel. We ordered courses, and the kids order from the kids menu. OMG, probably Tokyos best hamburger ever! I tried to go back and order that hamburger. Unfortunately its not on the menu. It’s only on the kids menu, and you can’t order it.

Now the problem with having things on the kids menu is, when I try and order something off the kids menu, being a full grown adult, it doesn’t work.

I am really happy that I have my kids order for me.

Back to that side.

So first off, why do adults eat off the kids menu?

There are probably some adults out there, that order off the kids menu because they are cheap, and they want to save money.

I might know a few of those people.

For me it comes down to 2 reasons

One - comfort food. I love eating hamburgers, Cheese burgers, Pizza, Sandwiches, Grilled cheese sandwiches, Hot dogs, Chicken nuggets or chicken tenders.

All of that food is stuff that I ate when I was a kid. And it is comfort food.

When I am feeling down or sad, or just you know...I like to eat that food.

It makes me feel good.

So number 2 is portion size.

Kids menu, being kids have smaller portions.

That is great, especially when you are coming back from Japan, where everything is a smaller portion. So if I’m coming (out to eat) and I’m not that hungry, and I just want a small hamburger, I might just want to order off the kids menu.

<Coffee Break>

Something about clam chowder and the Bay Area. Clam Chowder is famous San Francisco. Come over here to the Bay Area in Tokyo, they got clam chowder.

It’s good. One more!

The problem is, people don’t like you ordering off the kids menu, when you look like an adult. I don’t know why! Why is that? It says discouraged. Adults order off the kids menu is discouraged. But, that’s not saying that its a rule, right. It’s not saying that you can’t, it’s just saying that you are discouraged. They don’t want you to.

And so I ask nicely. You know I go out to the restaurant. And I don’t want to eat that much. And I say something like, “You know, I’m not that hungry, but I noticed that there is a hamburger on the kids menu, can I order that?”

So I’m asking. I’m telling them that I’m not that hungry. It’s saying discouraged, but I’m being as nice as possible. And the waitress will look at me like.

*gasp* NO! A KIDS BURGER

She looks at me like I just asked her to go jump off a cliff or to go drown herself or something.

I’m not a pushy person, right? I’m not pushy. So I say, oh no that’s okay. If its difficult, I’ll order something else. She gets me the kids burger anyways, but I had horrible service.

Why is this such a problem? Why am I not allowed to order off the kids menu? The only thing I can think about is. If the store is selling the kids menu at a cost. That means they are selling it and losing money. They’re not making any money off of it.

But if that’s the case, just charge people more. Or maybe don’t even make it a kids menu. They should make it a small portions menu, because the portion size in America is kind of ridiculous. It is ridiculous! It’s too big. Way too big! It’s not healthy.

Anyways, Stephen my question for you.

What type of crazy restaurants or dining experiences have you had in Japan? I’d love to hear about them, Thursday!

Alright, cya man. Bye
